The goal of School’s Out SC is to transform all area schools into Community Learning Centers. 

The purpose of the Community Learning Center is to ensure that all students in our high poverty communities are provided with structured, positive after school programs that are safe, rewarding, and inspiring.  Additionally, each center will offer healthy meals and healthcare access as well as learning, recreational and positive options for families and adults during evenings, weekends and summer.

Our active partnership with several local businesses helps us maintain the highest level of performance, accountability, and efficiency in order to achieve this goal. But we need your help.

School’s Out works with South Carolina’s often overwhelmed and underappreciated school principals to best organize after school programs that best suit each school’s individual needs.  Our full time site coordinators work hands on in each participating school. Their purpose is to support the principal, oversee the execution of dozens of programs, and constantly communicate with students and parents in order to encourage participation.

In our poorest communities with so many working, single parents and so many children returning to empty homes after school, raising healthy, motivated kids is a challenge for even the most heroic parent. 

The rate for juvenile violent crime and high risk, delinquent behavior (including drug and alcohol abuse) skyrockets between 3 pm and 6 pm. During these crucial after school hours many children are unsupervised. In many cases those that are safe spend more than 30 hours a week watching television.

South Carolina leads the US in violent crime and has the lowest high school graduation rate in the country. School’s Out wants to change this one community at a time – and we need your help.

With your help we can turn our schools into safe and vibrant community centers during the crucial after school hours, weekends, and summers.  With your help kids can eat healthy meals and be surrounded by teachers and mentors everyday instead of being left alone. With your help children can choose between structured art classes and organized team sports instead of being susceptible to drugs, crime, and teenage pregnancy.  

With your help and the help of the entire community we can improve the self confidence, social skills and academic performance of children in our poorest communities. With your help South Carolina can have the highest high school graduation rate in the country.
